Main Components
Borosilicate glass decanters are generally made of borosilicate glass. This type of glass has a strong resistance to high temperatures and acid-base corrosion, making it less likely to experience substance dissolution, penetration, or reaction when containing wine. It does not produce toxic substances and will not compromise the quality of the wine.
Advantages
Borosilicate glass decanters have excellent transparency, allowing the color and texture of the wine to appear clearly. This makes it easier to observe the status of the wine liquid and enhances the visual enjoyment of drinking wine.
Working Principle
Utilizing fluid engineering principles, the decanter speeds up the flow of the wine, allowing it to fully mix with air. This rapidly releases the internal pressure of the wine's molecular structure, enabling the tannins that have been stored under high pressure for a long time to quickly oxidize, preserving the smooth and aromatic taste of the wine. Additionally, some borosilicate glass decanters are designed based on the Venturi tube principle. By first contracting and then gradually expanding the fluid pressure difference, the decanter brings negative pressure air into the wine through two small straight-through air holes in the middle section, accelerating the polymerization reactions of hydrophobic bonds and hydrogen bonds, thus achieving the decanting effect.
Applicable Scenarios
Primarily used for "decanting" or "aerating" aged red wine, allowing the wine to come into contact with air. This helps the wine's aroma to fully volatilize, separates sediment in the wine, and improves the taste and quality of the red wine.
Borosilicate glass decanters are mainly used for decanting. While some decanters can be used for short-term wine storage, long-term storage is not recommended. This is because they are not specifically designed for long-term airtight storage, which could lead to oxidation and deterioration of the wine.
Choose based on the type and quantity of wine. For regular, daily-drinking wine, a decanter with standard capacity and design is sufficient. For aged, high-quality wines, you may opt for a more scientifically designed, professional borosilicate glass decanter that can accelerate the decanting process.
