1. Material Composition
Borosilicate Glassware: This type of glass is made primarily from silica and boron trioxide. The typical composition is about 80% silica (SiO2) and 13% boron trioxide (B2O3), with small amounts of other oxides. This composition gives borosilicate glass its high thermal resistance and low thermal expansion properties.
Pyrex: Originally, Pyrex was a brand name for borosilicate glassware produced by Corning Inc. However, in the United States, the Pyrex brand (now owned by World Kitchen) has shifted to using soda-lime glass for its consumer kitchenware products. Soda-lime glass is less resistant to thermal shock compared to borosilicate glass. In Europe and other regions, Pyrex-branded products may still be made from borosilicate glass.
